Hi guys, I know this has been covered a lot and I have done plenty of searches first. I need to find a way of preventing my soft top 90 from going missing, caught them in the act a few times now :mad: I have done a few home made jobs so far and a couple of hidden switches will be done by next week but I'd like something thats big and obvious as a deterrent. I don't want a disklok as it's too bulky so I'm trying to decide between these 3 pedal locks:

Clutch Claw - Car Security Product
Everyone raves about the clutch claw but surely you can cut through the pedals above the device?

LAND ROVER DEFENDER SECURITY DEVICE PEDAL LOCK STEERING on eBay (end time 07-Nov-10 21:52:51 GMT)
This one seems pretty good and at a good price too, it prevents access from everywhere and as they say, it's the advanced form of the one Paddocks sell. However it doesn't totally lock the pedals, just lock to the brake and has no back plate.

Nene Overland 4x4 Land Rover Defender 90 new and used for sale
I have seen one of these in their shop and was impressed by how sturdy it was (it better be at that price) whilst i like the idea it covers all 3 pedals from all angles, it doesn't prevent all 3 from being pressed (can engage/disengage gears)

Any advice/experience is much apprecitated as always :D cheers, Harry

You'll need a disclock....

or else they'll just get in and tow it away.

the disclock kind of prevents them towing it, and park it with your wheels turn to one side.

I have a clutch claw too....

Agree.
I have a Diskloc and think its the ideal security device. Its big, highly visible, easy to put on.
It is heavy, but really not too bad, I got the bag to put it in and it stores neatly behind my seat.
As JP says park with your wheels turned and steering lock on........once the diskloc is on there is no point in any scumbag trying to steal it as it aint coming off without a lot of effort and noise (if at all!!)
Clutch claws look great but but they have already broken in before they see them..........why not get both?

I use a disklok together with a pedal lock similar to the one in your link...

Ive also fitted a telescopic security post...

Im thinking of getting a Mech Lock fitted, once the money fairy has visited me.

If you can't have a discklock due to medical reasons, limp wrists, useless ballast etc then the next best is the Autolock 2000.

It's not as good as the disclock but out of the rest of the bunch of products available it is the next best on the list.

Ive been using an Autlock 2000 as well for the last few years. Extremely easy to fit and release. And it allowed me to have my steering knob fitted to the steering wheel, which I like to use.

Ive just bought a Disklok as ive heard they are the best, but ive had to remove my knob for it to fit. Still trying to get used to driving without my knob. And the Disklok is a bit clumbersome in the vehicle when its not fitted.

Ratty, im sure theres some mileage in this post for you to get your own back:D

I dunno if I should reply cos if I'm seen communicating with a post op people might get the wrong idea.;):p

Thanks guys, looks like i'll go for a disklok then...but of a bugger as i have one oif those swivel balls on my wheel. Might get a clutch claw too...peace of mind when i can't grab the 12bore quick enough!

Harry

i have the clutchclaw usually leave the steering on full lock + i'm pretty confident my fender cant out run a .243 center fire bullet ;):D

Sorry, but I disagree, this is, IMHO, worthless. Any driver with a little experience can change gear without using the clutch, I do it regularly. All you need to do is start the engine whilst in gear and then drive away. It's a simple matter of matching your engine speed to the road speed and your gears will slide in and out as you wish. Often smother than using the clutch!!! Ron.

I do this also, but the Mechlock claims to separate the drive between the gearbox and the engine. Wouldn't this be the equivalent of having the clutch pedal pressed down permanently, making it impossible to drive away?

Ahhh maybe I should have read the whole thing then. If that's the case then just cut the hydro pipe at the slave cylinder to realease any stored pressure and drive off as above.

Fit a set of train horns that go off with the alarm:D:D
