What options do I have for a second fuel tank on my 300TDI? I'm looking for a tank of 20-50 litres for diesel then using the main tank for 100% veg oil (or vice versa) and running a proper conversion. That way I can start on diesel, finish on diesel and use veg oil during the middle of my journey when the whole vehicle is nice and warm already. Will be fitted a filter heater as well.

Also the conversion companies all talk about the fuel pump type. Bosch / Lucas etc, what "type" is on the Landrover 300 TDi?

Well does yours fit under the drivers seat? The td5 one sits under the rear tub

Thanks, now I know that the TD5 has the tank in an alternative location I've just had a look and it seems that this will be the way to go. TD5 tank at the back with 2nd fuel gauge and pipework. Looks like I'll have to modify the exhaust and a bit of the chassis but doesn't look like much of an issue.

why not under passenger seat

Then I would have to find a place for the battery and I am converting it to dual batteries (I have a red top in it now plus the wiring and solenoid for the yellow top). Just thinking that the TD5 rear tank option might well be ideal. This is going to be for a dual fuel setup with veg oil and diesel.

Td5 tank and td5 exhaust

Yes, I've see a conversion to send the exhaust out in front of the rear wheel instead of behind it. I haven't actually seen where the TD5 fuel tank goes, where the filler is or anything like that yet. I also believe that some changes will be needed to the rear chassis

Thanks, I will be using a dual fuel system so it's easier to have a 2nd gauge.

yep I ran dual fuel on my tdi lightweight, veg in one tank dino in the other... but personally only ever found the need to see how much fuel was in the tank I was running on at that time?

cheers steve

Thanks. For the cost of a gauge I think I would prefer to have both. I'm fitting an additional dash thing at the same time as I have lots of lights etc to switch so I will move my volt gauge to that and maybe add others.

I have a 300TDi and the pipe comes out of the side behind the rear wheel. How does this get in the way of the TD5 tank?

I've been looking at the exhaust bits to get the exhaust away from the 2nd tank area. The problem is that when you search "300TDi exhaust" it could be either the original with the tank at the front or the later one with the tank at the rear.

Is this the exhaust part that clears the space for the rear tank?

td5 has rear tank 300 never did so only one exhaust

If you look at the bosal link above they produce an exhaust which doesn't fill up the area between the chassis rails I was under the impression that the last 300TDi had the tank at the rear too. This thread of LR4x4 also points in that direction 2nd fuel tank on a 90 - Defender Forum - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum but I've never seen one myself.

I'm hoping that the end piece of the above exhaust with a straight pipe from the front down pipe will make a complete system which will allow me to fit the TD5 tank.

These are the possible landrover 90 exhaust systems from bosal: http://www.catalogue.bosal.com/page...der+90&body=All body types&cartype=2.5&fuel=D

James, I have NO idea! I've had a Landrover since July THIS year and spent two months researching them before I bought. I had wanted one for years before I got one but I'm still new to it all.

If I can get that rear section of exhaust and fit it then do the chassis mods whilst I'm off over Christmas then I can start looking for the TD5 tank, 300TDi gauge, 300TDi rear tank fuel sender unit, tank bracket and protector in January when I got some more money. After the tank is fitted and plumbed in I can set it all up for a dual tank veg oil conversion which is my goal in the end.
