Help!!!!!
I got a 2a with free wheelin hubs which are locked on now. I have tried putting her into 4 wheel but front prop turns but no drive on the front wheels. Can anyone give me some suggestions please. Snow's gettin worse here so 4 wheel could be handy.

guessing at one or both of the freewheelers are seized and the dog clutch isnt engaging.
either that or a bust halfshaft.
how do you know the front prop turns without drive to the wheels?

Hey up,
I can see the prop turning through the floor as no gater on the high/low stick. Would it be easier to take the free wheelers off. As for the dog clutch, what's best to free it.

Jack up the front of the vehicle, put into 1st with the engine stopped, turn one wheel and t'other should go the opposite direction, if it dunt then theres a suspect free wheel hub, failing that half shaft.

If the hubs have engaged the propshaft will rotate if you are in 2 or 4 wheel drive. Check the 2/4wd mechanism is working properly and hasn't siezed.

dog clutch is in the free wheelers, and should drop the clutch in under spring pressure. no experience of the warn or dualamatic so cant advise on these. (didnt even know they made them)
looks like a freewheeler strip down to find which one aint playing.
if the prop dont turn when in 2wd but does in 4wd, gearbox can be ruled out.
if freewheelers turn out ok, problems further in, ie halfshaft of diff.

Hey up,
Cheers for the advice, took the end cap off the free wheelers and put it in 4wd with back end spinning on ice. Could see the half shafts turning inside the free wheeler housing with no noise coming from diff and front prop turning nicely. I think the free wheelers knackered as there pushing back on the springs when you put them back in the housing and not going down onto the half shaft cog. Looks like i gotta go back to original hubs.

HI Got simular problem with S3yellow knob seems to go down but back wheels spin a little nothing on front. My FWH have a big outer cap which turns am I right in thinking that engaged is turn clockwise some one also mention freeing up a rod/bar that may be sticking. Sorry don,t mean to hijack your thread !

Stick standard hubs on - I've never been convinced that freewheel hubs are worth the bother. They stick out too far, are easily damaged and using them all the time can mess up the lubrication in the swivels.

when i had my freewheeling hubs....... the the springs inside them become weak and then fail to allow them to engage... this could possibly be your problem as well

I have freewheeling hubs which don't need 'locking in'. They act like the freewheel system on a bike i.e. they only function in forward and just freewheel in reverse. Consequently no 4 wheel drive in reverse gear which can sometimes make life a bit awkward to say the least. Been toyin with the idea of removing them and go back to standard hubs.

No, have had it up in the air on stands to check and the front wheels only turn when 4wd is engaged and power is transmitted to front diff. Can't quite get my head round it but at least it works going forward.

No probs m8, I'm not sure which FWH you have, the ones i had i think were awf or similar. i just took them off and replaced the original hubs. I'll invest in a new set when the snows gone.
