Hey all been a while since i posted on this thread. been playing with my series too much :p but that needs a galv chassis which i need to save for so thought I'd finally continue with this project. :)

Anyway as the chassis has been sat up against the wall for a little while my previous work has gained a bit of surface rust. But nothing a good wire brushing with an angle grinder can't get rid of.
Welds still look good. And once I've done a little more welding it'll be ready for rust treatment and a couple of coats of paint. :)

Most of today involved sorting out the engine/transmission position. There's a fair bit of movement in the removable crossmember so moved it all as far forward as possible then tacked the engone mounts in position. Tomorrow I'll weld them in properly and take some photos once the engine is back out.

Couple of photos of engine and transmission in position.

Also tomorrow I'll see about sorting out the bulkhead fitment. End of the week I'll also be sorting out buying the tube to start building the cage. :D

Bit more done today. :)

Engine is now supported properly with some engine mounts I fabricated earlier from some 6mm steel.

Need to order some new engine rubbers but they will go on when the engine comes back out to fit the clutch.

Also today been messing about with a bulkhead i have lying about. Will need a few mods to make it fit but not as bad as i was thinking. :) Only mods i need to make are cut a part out of the footwell so the cage can go up past, and alter the bulkhead feet a bit to fit a new mount.
Also need to extend the original disco body mounts to make it reach the bulkhead feet and then it'll be able to be bolted on again.

Plenty more to follow this week as I'm on an early shift :)

Some fantastic welding going on there. Makes me want to cut up the RRC and start again! Then let you crack on with it. ;)

I'm sure that engine was in the series. :p What happened to the series? :( waiting until you can get a galv chassis for it?

Thanks :) It's not great but it'll do :p Leave the RRC as is ;) Im sure it's fine :)

It was in the series yes. And yes series is waiting for a galv chassis. :( want it done right so opted to go for a new chassis now. Not worth my time to weld the old rust trap up.

Ok so not been up to much as I've been working 12 hour shifts all week :(

Today though I have made some progress. :)

Started off the day by welding my homemade HD diff pan on. Made from 6mm steel so should be plenty strong enough.

Few pics of the bad boy diff pan which just needs dressing back :)

Tested it with a sledge hammer and it didn't even dent it  sledge hammer on the other hand ended up on the other side of the garage as I lost grip when it bounced back :D

Then decided a land rover bulkhead wasn't goingto cut the mustard so to speak so dec ided to start building one from scratch.

This is as far as i got with that.

Need to make some more brackets to hold on the steering column. Then need to work out how to mount a dash from a disco. Also then work out how to make the top part of the bulkhead for the vents/windscreen mounts.

Interesting project ,reminds me of the good ole days of offroading.
One thing have you checked that the diff pan for distortion after all that welding

How weird.. I was just drawing up a rough sketch to do exactly this!
Looks good mate!

Ummmm not yet. The welding was done very intermittently. So hopefully shouldn't be too bad, the diff still fits so that's good start:p

Very weird :suspicious: But seriously do it :p

And cheers:)

Hey guys.

Not alot has been happening just lately :( working 12 hour shifts means i don't get a lot of time to tinker at the moment.

Only progress i have made is the axles have been primed and the chassis has had a good coating of fertan and is nearly ready for primer.

Only have a picture of the axles though.

But, the paint has to come back off the front axle as I've now decided to fit hydrosteer rather than mechanical so will need some more welding done

Anyway hopefully the 12 hour shifts will be no more by the end of the week so may be able to get a bit more done soon.
