My transmission maybe on the way out.
I have a zf4hp22 installed that is problematic.

Are these 2 transmissions interchangeable, especially when applied to a P38 Diesel?

Is the 24 Stronger? (Mine is Jeremy Fearn pimped)

Looking at them, the ZF4HP24 is a little longer than the 22, this accomodated by a shorter extension piece between the gearbox and transfer box. Everything else seems to be the same but you may have to swap the torque convertor housing (bell housing)
The 24 has a higher torque rating so should be better, the 22 is marginal on the diesel.
If you manage to do it I would be interested in how it goes, it is something I have been considering.

Cant tell if you can swap the hp24 with the hp22, but ive been following the mod that Ashcroft does for the Disco II td5 autobox torque converter, the same that is used in the DSE (from what i can tell).
They adapt the 4.0L torque converter to fit the Disco TD5 autobox and from the reports theres an improvement.
Check this link:

Sent an email to Ashcroft asking about the same mod for the DSE but got no answer.
If it was possible to have the same mod for the DSE would be nice, not the same as having the more robust hp24 but an improvement aswell.

Hi All

Just swapped an engine from a car with and HP24 into a car with an HP22, probably should have uprated the torque converter as it is going from a 4.0 to a 4.6 but if it dies I will swap it, this is not a car that gets a lot of grief after all. The spacer on the flywheel for the flex plate was bigger on the 22 gearboxed car (ie the 24 came further forward), we have swapped spacer over and all seems fine so far...

Thanks
Andy
