Young Drivers

Hi,

Most my life i have always loved the Landrover series III , and somebody told me that they are cheap on insurance for younger drivers. I can;t start driving for a few more eyars yet but if i were to choose a Land rover III , could i get cheap insurrance on it.

dunno! iain't been that young for a couple of years.. you could try ringing an insurance company and pretend you are 17 and just past yer test. then see what they say. answer yer questions as truthfully as ye can(except the age bit) and you'll get a quote at todays prices...then try with a poogut206 and see what the difference is.

I have tried online quotes against my borthers punto i used a old r reg series III , 2.5 and it came up £2k , but is there a smaller engine ?

someof the early ones had an engine of 2ltr or less 1600 i think... most have the old 2.25 in them

It's not generally your car, the insurance companies are worried about.
It's the amount of damage you can do to someone’s else car.
So in general anything that’s big and or fast is a no no and although a Landy is not fast you can do a lot of damage with 1300Kg at 40 Mph

Sorry Best4x4xfar try a moped or a mini for a couple of years and once your past the danger age get a Landy cos there great fun.

A mini or a alfa was my second choice it looks like it will have to be that , but i would love a landy.

Dont worry Best4x4far there will still be landy's around when you are older and there is nothing to stop you buying one to off roading (assuming your dad has a trailer)

you could always just get a parent to insure it for you, and you go as a named driver for a couple of years. You dont get any no claims in your own name but at least you can get out. I did that until i was 21 then i got my own insurance.

That would have never worked with my parents but yours may be different.

My dad did that with my borthers , and it made my brothers alot cheaper , so i asked him if he could do it on my qoutation , so he was 1st driver and put me down as second but stil was sky high.

Its a bit cheaper... but don't hold your breath.

Best thing is to get your test, then look about for LR's, then call the insurance people, by that stage you have a licence and they quote better with licence details. If its to expensive to insure, don't buy it, find another.

Also, only get the landy if you can be bothered working on it, if its just for cheap insurance, you will end up spending more on parts anyway.

Its not just for cheap insurance , i like bigger vheicles , in the smaller range i only really take a fancy to Alfa romeo 145 & minis. Also i like working on vheicles , me and my dad are currently fixing up a 95 ford scorpio estate

make sure you shop around for quotes! Every time mine is up for renewal i always spend about 1 1/2 - 2 hours trying different places. I tend to save myself about £70 from the renewal quote. Its a right pain filling all them forms in, but insurance company's hope you cant be bothered to shop around. Also i found places like confused.com (who say they will do all the filling in for you) do not save me anything. Your better getting a quote direct yourself.

They only like young drivers because they like the sound of cash registers.
