As you know in my 1990 classic 3.9 I changed the oil on my autobox which is supposed to done every 25k miles , I did the filter too. after a while it stopped changing up from first in the mornings untill you had done at least a mile which was a problem.

Read on th ashcroft transmissions site that if the oil has not been done as often as it should (ie before I had the car) then you change it it wil stir up all the ****e in the box and block stuff up in the box, including the govenor hence the problem.

I had it changed , £112 for the part £250 labour but to my horror after two weeks of clear running and one moroway trip it has started doing it again, although not as bad , but I can see it fully coming back after another motorway blast which is what seems to do it.

My advice :unless its been service on the button , never change your autobox oil!

It is so annoying as I now have completed all the other jobs on it , some quite big and at least 20 in total.

I have a secondhand box but the same will happen again when I fill it up with new fluid I bet!

And if you have any advice , apart from burning it , which does appeal, it would be most appreciated!

Yeah I have looked at that , I am going to ask my local AT specailist tomorrow about a megaflush but when the monkey who worked on it last asked the the same AT specialist they told him that would not work, at the time I believed what he said,But after all the Feckups he made I am inclined to not to now.

In your expert opinion Mr M/H do you think all the exhaust paste he put on the manifold gasket could restrict the flow?, as she aint got as much balls as she had before on the motorway.:D

If i were you, i would call Ashcrofts today. See what they say. They will have no vested interest.
As for gungum - no idea, but if you arent sure then get it checked. Better to be safe, than sorry.

Oh - and get yoself a noo mekanik!

That £362 wudve gone well over a third of the way to having an unlimited mileage warrantied recon box fitted, Good luck with it.. i feel ya pain it happend to me

Oh, god. you Fill me full of hope Fett.
My AT will be coming off as you know. Looks like I maybe in for some major fun.

Just dont touch it , leave it alone and let it blow up of its own accord in a few years and get a recon one then , at least you will have a few more years before the expense and you never know it might not give up at all:confused:

I spent quite a while deciding whether to get a s/h box fitted or a recon the rebuild wasnt an option cos i dont think i possess the patience required the s/h option was 'how longs it gonna last? in the end i went with a recon for £950 and up to yet i havent regretted that choice, depends on ya funds and how long you intend on keeping the mota

Busy day been on to : trading standards , csma legal advice and automatic trasmissions specailist and local garage.

I have notice that where he put the exhaust back it has rubbed through a brake line on the axel, but no fluid is coming out so I dont know whats going on there??

The auto specailist says that if monkey man had changed the fluid properly first time round this wouldnt have happened but they wont give me that in writing as its the same guy he uses too. They also said £1500 for a new box supply and fit.

Trading standards said go and see him and quote their regulations etc and see where I can get , then small claims court-same as what csma said.

I am wating for local garage which I trust to quote for removing and fitting transfer box and autobox to give me an idea of what to do , as I still have the secondahnd box which I could try, give another govenor/clean govenor a go on the same box.

Conclusion Argghhhh!

In Gosport , Hampshire.

Was yours £950 including fitting?

My problem is its twice what I paid for the car!

Yes it is all the ****e:(

And theres more.

I noticed the other day that the exhaust he refited was rubbing on the back axel , it has crushed and nearly worn through the brake line!

He is picking it up saturday to fix this, I was not taking no for an answer on that one , I didnt fancy another drive in the country to go and see him either!:D

I also found out that he got sacked from his last garage for being ****ed on the the job all the time and that he has been in prison too. He is well known for being ****e and unfortunatly the guy who recommended him to me didnt know that :(

Hi Fett.

Sorry your having all this trouble when all you did was try to do the right thing....if i was closer i'd say pop it round and we could just drop the old box and pop a new one in as those kind of faults are 'king annoying.
Do you not have any fellow landy owners close that could help change it.....and did you say that you had a box?

Cheers, Nick.
