So I have just got the gearbox out of a 1971 Aussie Built S2a 109 station wagon that unfortunately is being scrapped. But I need a few bits for the gearbox in my 1968 S2a 88.

However, the serial number is 9 digits

Now I am confused as to what version this geabox actualy is:
Can anyone provide any suggestions?

Hi MadMax, What part of Aus? [ if that is where you are ] That box looks pretty good inside. That last digit could be an S stamped over another number. Given the year it could be a series 3 box with syncro on 1st 2nd, can you see if it has? Some late 2a's had series 3 box [ land rover were ones for mixing bits of different models back then, I had a series 2 with a One box].

Spring retainer on the gbox oil filler cap is an early feature, is that the gbox dipstick stub on the left rear side of the box?
If so both are very early (pre60) UK features.

This might help.
