Hello, I have blocked the vacuum hose that goes in the EGR solenoid using two screws found in the shed.
Is this supposed to provide the same effect as the valve won't open? If so, this is a very cheap egr blank that won't upset the MOT tester.

Thanks,
Paul

Hey, what you’ve done stops the ecu from opening closing/ controlling the egr valve.

I would recommend that you inspect the inside of the valve for debris and crap and make sure it’s clean as if it’s already stuck open just a little bit then you’ve permanently jammed it that way now and it’ll swallow it’s own crap forever.

These mods are usually always done along side a full intake clean out as it restores performance and ensures a good permanent fix.

Cheers

Thanks Ross,
I did a clean of the valve and manifold. That is why I was willing to go via the egr blank, to stop that black death from accumulating further.
However, was a good test. Immediately after fitting this I experienced the 2k misfire and engine seems noisier. Something upsets the ECU glad I've found it this way.
I guess a manifold and egr clean every now and then will do.

It's quite common to experience the 2K misfire after the EGR valve is disabled. It seems that the EDC doesn't fully compensate for the increased O2 which is available once the exhaust gas isn't going down the intake.

However the 2K misfire can manifest itself, even when the EGR is functioning correctly, so the exact cause is difficult to prove.

My td4 egr was bypassed before purchasing it. It’s never had any issues at any particular rpm. I would check sensor reading on live data specifically at the rpm that sees issues. A dodgy maf or map could cause that.

They do fly once you’ve cleaned them out eh. Mine was nearly choked shut. Now she launches like she wants to win lol.
