i have struggled through winter with a brand new battery, however it was not up to scratch.initially it fired it into life but after four months it has lost it's punch,it is still under warranty, but according to their wonderful meter it is ok?
well i bought a big battery the biggest battery that could fit in the tray, and all is sweet, the hot start problem is better.
the other battery i shall have to wait a bit and try and give it back,it is definately faulty

Just because it fills the space does not mean its the right battery!

Are you driving a diesel? If so they need more umph, type 664 not 644 and 107amp/hr.

Maybe there is a dodgy earth or the starter motor's on its way out. After all, the tests show the battery is good.

yes it does show battery is good,i went to an auto electrician, and he pointed out that under load the battery was defective,in summer lovely, but the next winter or cold spell it will struggle, starter motor is fine and all earths have been cleaned.battery shows 12.6 volts, under load 10.72

Get the auto electrician to say its dodgy in writing, on his headed notepaper, photocopy it and send it to the company who supplied your battery.

that may be the only way cheers for that.
although it has 12 volts + it has lost the ampage a diesel needs to kick it up the arse

where did yu buy it from?
what was it tested on?
did you get a printout?
What was the fault?

i bought the battery from a motor factor,it was tested at chris cooling,he used a multimeter, and voltmeter, one to measure amps pulled, and one to measure voltage,i will ask for a printout.
the motor factor has a meter that tells them battery voltage, also a battery code, and the meter works out a pass or fail.

A battery tester is a fairly universal tool. Its a set of prongs which provides a high current draw, and it has a little voltmeter on it to measure the voltage during that high draw. And a little scale with a green bit and a red bit. If it goes into the red bit, it fails, if it stays in the green it passes.

Just testing voltage with no load, ISN'T the proper test for a battery.

If it was a Bosch 121 battery tester, it will supply a printout as well. Much better than a voltmeter and an ammeter as it tests under load and checks for lots of things.

did it look like this? BOSCH Battery Tester BAT 121 on eBay (end time 23-Feb-11 22:59:34 GMT)

Oh - and a motor factor wont accept results from a voltmeter and ammeter.

similar to that at the motor factors,
the auto electrician guy has one of those bosch ones so i can get him to put it on and print out,the other thing is a density tester? the older chap is old school, but the younger guys will be the ones geeking on it lol

what battery did you get - it is possible its too small - if so then if it has been hammered, then that wont be covered under warranty.

more details required.
