I use extra 2 stroke oil in fuel on 200tdi defender but since doing that I've noticed it smoke a bit blue on startup only when first start of day turbo is fine and it isn't drinking oil any ideas. ???

burning oil thats vapourised by pump and injectors shouldnt ,unlike raw oil burned from cylinder walls or from turbo ,try valve stem seals and check turbo pipes for blue smoke only on start up

I did have a quick look at them pipes but there's nothing obvious splits etc is there anything else to look for is stem seals a big job :-s

i was thinking of excessive oil been sucked in on start up ,oil seals can be done with head in situ as long as you only do the 4 valves with the pistons at tdc ie 1 and 4 and then 2 and 3

A bit dim here how could excessive oil be sucked in on start up I'm not completly familiar with Diesel engines

I've noticed a bit of blue smoke on start-up too

06 TD4 Auto

I have used 2 stroke oil and/or redex but ran out and didn't put any in the last tank full.

Connected?

it collects in bottom of manifold and inter cooler etc and is sucked in from vac on start up during running oil mist doesnt get the time to collect in to 1 larger quantity, same with stem seals oil collect on valve in port overnight sucked in again on start up but once running not enough gather so you notice though some oil will be entering through valve

So if I take out my inter cooler and wash it through with petrol and also clean all the pipes this may give me a indication of where the oil is coming from

you could it wont hurt , you could also remove top inter cooler hose to inlet to see if it reduces smoke ,

Thanks for your help James my 200tdi has just done 190,000 and I've just bought a house so I'm hoping it nothing serious as I can't afford a re build

Remember that adding extra oil to diesel on top of what is already in there will reduce the amount of diesel per injection and increase the amount of oil.

Diesel is a fuel/oil mixture already, adding yet more oil is not particularly beneficial to the engine.
