had a 1968 series 2a petrol, only paid 100 quid for it, only cost a few quid to get mot,d loved it but it only done abot 4 lamposts to the gallon and at the time could barely afford to run it and as it was my only car had to let it go. had a couple of sj suzukis that were ok, a toyota s*r* yuk hideous on fuel swapped it for a 92 disco which i love to bits, great fun and dsnt cost the earth to run

Series III petrol (ex AA) got me hooked. Traded it for a Rover SD1 and then a Sherpa van, went on to a
Jeep Cherokee, nice engine but crap underbody clearance and the brakes kept falling apart.
Then a brand new 300TDi which was the most unreliable car I've EVER had - dealer so embarassed they kept repairing it even out of warranty until I swapped that for a
Freelander TD4 TOTALLY RELIABLE, LOVELY MOTOR, drove it to Turkey and back 3 days each way; that went back at the end of the 3-year lease.
Next was a 200Tdi I bought off a mate who was emigrating,
traded that in for the TD5, which is the nicest of all but a bit pricey to repair.
Think I might go for rebuilding a S III diesel next and keeping it for ever...

At 17 a Vw polo coupe s used for rallying.
Still at 17 a 1987 defender 90 TD With 2" lift kit
At 18 i brought a 1989 defender 90 with a defender 200tdi engine transplant in. ;). Since having it tweaked engine and fitted some kit

A huge variety of Land Rovers starting with a BMC engined SWB that was 24 years ago the chassis I still have, then a LWB petrol with a Harvey Frost recovery crane, and from there it's all down hill to the V8 Disco I bought on Thursday.

Andy.:)

1st 4x4 was a Toyota Townace, a totally gutless (but reliable) motor with so much bodyroll you needed sick bags at the ready:eek:, now on our 2nd Disco which feels like a F1 car compared to the towny.

had sj 410 very good wouldnt knock it
90 td dodgy engine
defender 200 tdi
discovery 200 tdi commercial heap of ****e
defender with 6.2 gmc v8 deisel in it loads of power good mpg
now got 90 putting 3.5 v8 in it with lots of toys, all the above were for work where this one is for pleasure:)

how good mpg do you get from a 6.2 gmc v8 deisel
I have had a Td as my first 90 and agree it isnt the best but personly i love my 200tdi. 26mpg, running special tracks got winch and bumper weight on it so dont think its too bad. And fuel pump has been played with.
