OK OK i should have listened and not got a freelander now the head gasket has gone and i dont know whether to

a)fix
b)scrap

Taking into account im a girl thats usless at mechanical things.... or anyone want to sell me another 4x4 ~lol~

SO fed up i think im cursed when it comes to cars

The upside to the 1.8k series engine is that it is relatively cheap to fix and there are a lot of mechanics out there with experience dealing with the engine. This means you don't need to go to a main dealer to get a decent job done.

And gender has very little to do with mechanical skillz.

I have been led to believe that there is a permanent fix to the Head Gasket issue,,

its a change of head,,not sure it was just a brief conversation with a mechanic
that was helping out with mine..

Might be worth a search or two for a permanent fix..

Found this..

If it's been done properly, (the head's been skimmed, they've uprated it to metal locating dowels and the multi-layer Freelander gasket) then it should be fine as long as the cooling system is in good condition and has been bled properly

Are we talking about a K-Series, or a F/L 2?

Listed under F/L 2, but everyone has jumped to the conclusion that it is a 1.8 :?

As above ..why would we assume anything - when the lady has a lovely FL1 pic in her profile page ;)

The proper fix to the headgasket failure isn't just the upgrade headgasket and dowels, its also a modification to the coolant system. It just alters the operational temperature of the thermostat and also moves its location.

+1
as well as allowing coolant to bypass the stat, to avoid over pressuring the system
