what about something bolted on the spare wheel carrier? that might work...
the steps would have to be on the left side so that the tailgate can be opened

I already make a ladder which bolts to the wheel carrier in front of the wheel ;)

I know you do, and it is a very nice piece of kit to, I was talking about an alternative so that you don't have to remove it to fit the bike rack as thequeenscheese suggested.

Ahh, Yeah, could stick a couple of bars off the vertical tubes to sit under the cross tube of a bike no problem at all...But then it would be permanent and couldn't be removed

Yeh I recall seeing your bike bracket, I've been thinking of making a slide out bike rack for inside my Freelander, but i'd need to remove the rear seats for it to work as the bike is just too long to go in straight, at the moment it goes in diagonally.

A couple of bike racks which would bolt onto the standard LR cross bars would be an ideal solution, then again, you can get the Thule bike brackets which do that!

Nice bikes ;)

the plan has always been to build something like this

now I'm thinking of extending it up front to the light bar, just don't know how to work out the mounting points

Yeah I'm still working on the light bar, can't find any suitable steel brackets which will clamp to the channel

Use silver gafer tape :D .
BTW lights should be placed more backward if you don't want to light up your cabin or drive in welding mask

yeap, duck tape fixes it all
if I place them more to the rear won't more light come in trough the sunroof? I've read some complaints from some guys that mount light-bars on the OEM racks.

Nice bikes ;)

My word that's two seriously nice bikes... got an '09 Enduro myself but not quite in that league!

thanks, the one in the front is my brother's (he is a completely MAD Downhill biker), the one in the back is from a friend of his, but the last time he has used it was in the summer of 2012, since then it is kind of forgotten at my parents place cause my brother's friend is at the university and has no place to store it.
He allowed us to use it and I take every chance I get to ride it, that's why I need a "heavy duty" roof rack to take them to the hills.

SES88, sorry for the topic-jacking

You could go for something like mine. The light does come in massively, but I have the original pull blinds fitted which do most of the work, although I think I might get the material replaced for opaque to do a bit more. As for front mounting points, the only thing I can think of is some kind of expansion type fixing to go in under the front capping but I cant see that being perfect.

The G4 ones were bolted through I believe, trying to avoid doing that since its a seam joint
