Woo hoo! My Wading Kits arrived!

Well, the snorkel went on earlier this week and the wading kit will follow soon. As before I will post loads of pictures as I go through the fitment process. I will try to do this in daylight this time as the sealant around my snorkel looks as though it was put on with a catapault.
I also have a bathroom floor to grout and I'm shooting on Sunday so I will have to see when I can do it and keep SWMBO happy.
My 90 is a Td5 so I ought to consider protecting the ECU as well. Any thoughts?

BGB. I'm one of those losers wiv a day job and I'm up at Castle Donny today and back in Luton tomorrow in my Disco. I won't risk the Defender on the motorway until autoland get me a spare wheel (I've only got four!).

Don't wanna take money away from Bill at AL but you might find someone in the local group with a good s/h tyre going spare etc. Now Bills move I wonder if is landy pic still on the wall?

Are you a member of the Luton pistol & rifle club? Was tempted to join up as the SWMBO farther is by all accounts a bloody good shot there and at Bisley. Far too many hobbies to be starting another and the UK is so strict on what you can own.

Well I got it all fitted yesterday while the sun shined and some pictures sre added. All of them will be in an album very soon.

With 20:20 hindsight I wouldn't buy a kit of eBay. All you need is a few meters of tubing, three 2 into one adaptors and a bunch of cable ties to do the job on a Td5. The axles already have push-fit connectors and the gearbox and transfer box have banjo unions with push fit off-takes.

Firstly I jet washed the underside at Tesco (Despite a sign stating 'No off road vehicles'), raised it on ramps with axle stands and chocks to assist. I also put on trousers with knee pads in them (I am old after all!). I then located the rear axle breather and removed the pipe. I fitted my new tube and routed it forward and up into the engine compartment. I did the same for the front axle.

Getting access to the gear and transfer box breathers was a bit more of a struggle. I took the transmission cover off which meant disconnecting the battery and moving the fuse box out of the way (but still connected). The transmission cover was an awkward job and it needed a lot of swearing before it came off. Many of the fasteners were corroded so they went straight into a tupperware tray with some corrosion stuff (LPS). The breathers on the Td5 have banjo unions so all I did was remove the pipes and fit new ones although I did disconnect the transfer linkage for access.

I now had four long vent tubes sticking up in the engine bay so after trimming the length they all fitted into the manifold mounted at the rear of the bay on the bulkhead. I then ran a single, larger diameter tube from the manifold out through a grommet sealed into the gap that already exists where the bonnet meets the bulkhead on the off-side. I routed the tube through two 'P' clips on the snorkel bracket and poked it into the top of the snorkel where it can breathe in peace.

The hardest part of the job was removing and refitting the transmission cover. The highlight ot the job was finding my flat cap under the cubby box!

More pictures! Same job! It looks quite tidy but I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't research it a bit more. The Td5 only needs some tube, tywraps and three 2 into 1 tube connectors to do the job!

Still. Took it shooting today so I got to go out in the pouring rain and sleet! Just need to remember to seal the inlet air manifold drain before testing the wading capabilities!

Hi Jai. Re the spare I just got so much conflicting info regarding wheel offset that I just opted for Bill at Autoland as he has yet to let me down.

I don't shoot small arms just shotguns. I would like a rifle but like you the hobbies are piling up and the rules are so restrictive. Raol Moat and Derrick Bird didn't do us any good but at least the government appears to realise that regulations won't prevent wierdos committing crime. After all, a Defender driven into a bus queue could kill many more! You would probably have to put the wipers on fast wipe to see where you were going though!

Looking nice, TBH thats all you need for all of them, A couple of Push fit x Push fit connectors then the tubing, All you have to do is cut the end of the current breathers so its nice and clean and push the new push fit connector on then run a new pipe. Not sure about the TD5 but the TDi have a round plate with 3 holes for its mount onto the timing case I do belive, if your handy with the tools you can make one of them weld a nut onto it and then get a push fit x what ever thread 90deg fitting and your done.
