Hi guys, got a p38 4.0 1995 model on coil packs. Wouldn't run for very long if some of you remember from another post. Well I took the heads off and put them back on. Changed the plug leads and now it won't start. It will turn over for ages then all of a sudden it will try to fire, but only for a short period of say 20 seconds, then it will turn over and fire again but not long for it to run. I believe it was running slightly but only for as long as you were turning the ignition key to cranking if you know what I mean. Also I disconnected the gas when I put the heads back on to see if it would cure the overfuelling problem I was getting. Has this got anything to do with it not starting? I've basically unplugged the gas wiring from the injectors and the accumulator on the side of the induction pipe. As I was told maybe my initial problem may be down to the gas not cutting the ful off because the system was out of "sync"? Hence the popping in the inlet and the overfuelling smoke from the back of the car.
So does anyone have any suggestions to why my bloody P38 won't start before I get a match and some petrol to it!!!!!!!!! Thanks

To be honest mate, I haven't delved into it yet, just wanted some scope before I got stuck into it, hopefully I'll tell you more tomorrow, which includes checking for spark, I might even try the old leads back on it aswell. Anything else I should try while I'm checking the plugs and leads over?

Right, I've had a little mess with it, I took the plugs out, they were all wet with petrol, so fuel's getting through. I've checked for spark and I've got that. The other thing it is doing is popping through the inlet. You can see the air intake pipe blowing crap back out.??

the coil packs are numbered across the black bracket starting drivers side 2.

two corresponds with drivers side bank, front and goes 2468 pass side 1357

takes a bit but just follow them over and re wire it!

yep, been there done that!!!!!

ell I've had the heads checked and put them back on, no valve damage or lifter damage, removed the gas for now to see if the overfuelling problem is fixed, then just to the original problem why I bought the car, overheating. But believe this is an intermitent fault as some days it runs for 40mins + without overheating then other days it will do it in 5 mins. Found a slight wobble on the water pump pulley, so that will be the next port of call.
