Wont Start!!

Hi all

Changed a bent push rod on a 300tdi defender today, but it wont start now!? Dont have a torque wrench so didnt torque the rocker shaft nus/bolts but didnt think this would cause it not to start. Any ideas much appreciated? Cheers

Why/how did the push rod get bent?

Hydraulised the engine a while ago, runs fine just smokes white a little so thought i would change it. Cheers

I'd check the tappet clearances and the cambelt timing if you've not already.

Thanks gratch, wouldnt tappet clearance just cause it to run rough rather than not start? Presume checking tappets is just a feeler gauge on top of the valves?

If there's no clearance or too much clearance then the valves won't open or won't shut. You'd think that the clearances won't change if you take off the rocker shaft but they probably will. Yep check valves with a feeler, use 'rule of nine'.
It may be summit else but that's where I'd start.
