My 110 (200Tdi) has been sat around for a good couple of weeks. Tonight I wanted to get it in my garage to sort a few issues as I have an MOT on Saturday. One of the main issues was to replace the diesel leak off/return pipe that goes between the injector pump and no.1 injector.

Unfortunately with the recent cold weather and lack of use the battery went flat cranking it. It normally starts really easily and there would have been enough power in the depleted battery to get it running. Am I right in saying that the split pipe and lack of use is the culprit here and there's air in the system or similar? All I need to do is give it a good crank with a charged battery and it should run, right? Or do I need to bleed the system?

Thanks!

Hi, whilst it wasn’t a defender, we had exactly the same issue cause a non start on a old Peugeot diesel. Fitted a new pipe and primed the system and it fired right up !

Yeh air in the system. Had is similar issue with mine, just needed cranking a bit until it fired. I suspect your batt died and replacing with a new batt and new pipe and a bit of cranking will sort it

Changed the brittle plastic pipe to the rubber/fabric variety with fuel hose clamps for good measure. Eventually spluttered into life and has been on the first turn of the key since. Thanks for the advice!
