Disco 2 Wonky steering wheel

Quick question. I replaced the steering box on my TD5 recently. However I obviously didn’t lock the steering correctly as when the steering wheel is straight it turns left.

I don’t want to remove the box, so, can I drop the arm from the box and straighten the steering wheel and replace the arm without effecting anything else.

you cant alter the drop arm, you can slide a uj back on the lower steering coloumn and refit in correct alignment, or remove steering wheel and reset it,be careful you dont let steering wheel spin as it can break the rotary coupling
you could ask whoever did it to finish the job properly and check steering wheel button functions

I had this same problem when a colleague swapped my steering box out for me. He said to take the steering wheel off and and put it back on straight but you can't do that with a D2 as the steering wheel only sits in 1 position. Luckily I had enough thread on the track rod at the front of the car (probably not the right term) to wind the thread back enough until the steering wheel was straight again.

Rave only suggests using the drag link to adjust for 5 degrees of steering wheel misalignment, tyre places frequently do it way beyond this through ignorance and lack of experience with steering box set ups, the pitman arm on the box has a sort of balanced rest position. As mentioned the easiest way is generally the undoing the shaft. It works well to let it roll a bit with the slackened off steering shaft and you holding the wheel in the dead ahead position then tightening up but obviously be conscious of the risks of a moving vehicle with no steering connected.

the correct way is to set steering box central then set steering wheel then adjust drag link if steering wheel runs off set on the road
