Hi, I suspect it has been this way for a while but I've just noticed my Disco 1 ('97 R) is lop sided at the rear!

The tyres are identical but the distance from floor to wheel arch is 32" on the passanger side and only 30.5" on the drivers side.

Now obviously at that age there is quite a lot of rot under there but the suspention / axels etc are not that bad and certainly all looks attached.

The strut length is identical but there seams to be spring on the drivers side is ~1 inch shorter than on the passenger but looks (as well as you can see without lifting it) like its got the same number of coils. Does corrotion on the springs cause them to softenand would this account for the "droop" or are there any other good sugestions??

All landies lean to some extent You might have same tyres but have you checked they're rthe same size. Very few tyres are. also try filling tank & see if that levels it any.

I have noticed this on mine and several other disco 1's Usually though, the whole vehicle is leaning, not just drooping at the back. I think it is due to an uneven left/right weight distribution. It would seem that this is just typical (of the time) rover build quality.

its normally more noticable on range rover classics, 'the rangerover lean' but seeing at the disco 1 chassis is the same it would also slightly affect the disco, its just the uneven weight distribution and worn springs

The springs sag over time too, Usually fairly evenly but possibly not always.

I put 2" lift springs on mine and they lifted it by 3" at the front and 4.5" at the back!!

Your not wrong there V8 Disco...I thought it was the rear springs on my old RRC I replaced them but no change it's was the front ones that were iffy :doh:.

the spare wheel, the driver, and the toque from the engine all pushes down on the right hand side, so they sag like a bugger.

new springs cure it, for a bit!

also, check that the rear axle sring mount are ok, my drivers side had rusted away, so the spring plate had dropped about 15mm and was sat on the axle, making even more lean.

lift kit soon, cant wait :D

:D

Mr Noisy to Mrs Noisy;

"The landrover's gonna need new springs darling, they've sagged a lot - I bet new ones will make it look lots higher"

Lol, we've all been there...
