Wiring the cigarette lighter, help.

So brakes will all be done this bank holiday weekend hopefully, another job I want to do at the same time is run a wire from the fuse box to the cigarette lighter.

When I brought the tratter I didn't even check it, plugged the phone it and nothing! Had a look behind an no wire attached.

'm guessing I crimp a connector on the wires at the top to slot onto the lighter bit but haven't got a clue where to start with introducing it into the fuse box?! Any help would be very much appreciated.

The wiring is already there.
Don't know the colours though but 5 mins with a mm or bulb tester will tell you.

If it's being used for something else I take it if have to rewire it completely??

not always, mine didn't work, had a look and no wiring at all................

If you pull the cover off the fuse panel you should see the position for the fuse marked on the inside. If there's a wire at the fuse it will be a good place to start tracing upwards into the dash.

Mine (1989 90) is from a 17A fuse to the lighter and the hazards
Comes from a brown (battery non ignition switched) to the fuse then on to a purple to the lighter.
There are 3 wires to the lighter from memory, one is for the light bulb (red white stripe - again from memory) and black
Mind you depends on the previous owner - see what mine left me:

Not had a go yet, done my front calipers, disks, pads an wheel bearings Friday and yesterday. Things didn't go to plan. Haha
