Looking at retrofitting my d2 with an aftermarket alarm.
Looks like the original alarm although being very loud when triggered, only reacts when the motion sensors in the ceiling detect an intrusion into the cabin.
As far as I know, it doesn't appear to have shock sensors that set off the alarm when for example, someone tries to jack up the car and nick the wheels or pull of any of the external trim.
Just found out someone had tried to nick my spare wheel on the back. They had already slackened off the two standard nuts and appeared to have had a go at the locknut with a chisel or something of the sort and the alarm had not gone off at any time.
Another time, someone hit the car at the parking lot at work, tearing a gash in the rear quarter panel, and the alarm didn't go off to warn me at that time either.
Knowing the complex electronic ensemble between the IDM, BCU and the like with this vehicle, I wonder if it's possible to wire in an aftermarket alarm that would control central locking, lights, engine immobilisation, etc.
If anyone has successfully completed such a task I would be very interested in being educated with a brief how to.
Would want to get this done at the earliest before whoever it is who had a go at nicking my spare wheel comes back with the right tools and succeeds at his goal or even worse.
