You are about to burn out your wiring harness, and possibly the whole car.

Send for a vehicle electrician, because you are making it clear this job is beyond your ability.

Thanks but i know electrics etc I rewired my house and do all wires jobs etc I worked for Sharp and Brothers factories before etc

yes I know it is burning out I just wondered if it needed to replace the whole or just the wires in question etc

I will just check the wires and replace if needed etc

You will be the expert then.
But I wonder why you asked us in the first place?

Maybe you should start wondering why it isn't blowing fuses IF as you say it's burning the wires.

Hey! Maybe you being an expert and all, that worked for Sharp & Brothers and wired your house, has fitted 50 amp fuses to stop the lights from blowing 10 amp fuses so often. Saves a lot of cash that does, fuses cost a bit these days.

The rest of us will attend to burned wires IMMEDIATELY we find them. We're not as smart as you that can leave them to smoulder a while longer.

PS - buy a BIG fire extinguisher and keep it in the car very handy.

whilst welding the footwell of the rangey on monday i managed to set fire to some of the sound insulation inside. You would not believe how fast this stuff goes up, and its a bastard to put out too. Nothing got damaged but if i hadnt have noticed my eyes stinging it could have been a lot worse.
Ever seen a car go up in smoke from an electrical fire? It happens VERY fast!
I am an electricain and also have rewired many vehicles-find the cause and fix it as charles says. May have been a previous problem that no longer exists but check the whole section it runs to and from.

Hi - are the bulbs the standard 55w or have they been upgraded to 100w jobs, that might explain the damage ?

A short or partial short circuit upstream of the wiring would not explain the damage at the bulb holder end of the wiring, so it does seem like the bulbs are drawing too much current, or there s a partial short circuit at the bulb holder.

Best check you have the correct rated fuses installed for that circuit so if something does completely short you should be protected. I think its safe to assuming LR matched the wires and fuse correctly.

Does the wiring look standard, I wonder if someone has been in there before and modified the headlight wiring ?

Good luck and keep us informed

If the problem is just the connection block on the back of the headlights, you can buy just the block with short wires attached from most motor factors. I have come across 3 Disco 300's with this problem. Its an easy fix but bloody annoying. Don't know why the blocks seem to melt eventually

one of my mates was good at putting huge fuses into things that kept blowing and even better than that bits of nails etc into 13amp fuse holders in plugs for power tools etc.
didnt really pay off when he was stranded at the side of the m62 as his R reg range rover went up in smoke with all his belongings in on the way back from a weeks camping holiday with the wife and kids.

Fooking sparky tried to kill me on a house refurb in london. I was demolishing an internal brick wall & needed to get rid of a double socket. I asked him if it was dead & he said everything was off. So I cut the cable, melted my cutters and blew the consumer unit up. The **** had used a 4" nail to get round the mains fuse holder, cos the leccy board had taken the fuse out when they'd cut off the leccy. Mind you the fooking ****head fell thru the loft access hatch the following day. when floor board under his steps snapped in half :D

Charlesy good response and yeah I know all I wanted to know is anyone has same problem etc anyway I checked preoperly and the bleedy thing is not even routed to the fusebox it goes staright to the steering colunm etc and the connector block is damged so took wire off and rerouted the wire from the spare fuse in the fusebox and put a new connector. someone has botched up the electrics so checked all the fuses and wires all seems fine just the headlights and ingition switch put a new intigion switch cable from battery to fusebox and the alternator with a new fuse. and then a new cable from fusebox to the ingition all okay now to think it was without a fuse!!! wow lucky it didn't go up in fire!!!! and yeah for your question yes it is standard 55w/60w bulb
on the right hand side headlight I see a wire that has been clipped and it was to a relay so I guess it was connected to s spotlights before so took that off. as I have a new wires from fusebox to my spotlights on the rooflamps etc I am waiting for my missus to give me go ahead so I can start build my own defender similar to tig96
