Hi all, does anyone know what might be causing my windscreen wipers to stop mid sweep. The problem only happens on the single sweep option, it doesn't happen when the wipers are fully on.

If I press and hold the stalk on the spring the wipers continue until I release the pressure and then the wipers stop immediately wherever they are in the sweep. If I just ping the stalk then sometimes the wipers do a full sweep and other times they will randomly stop mid sweep.

I wondered whether it could be a dodgy connection in the switch/stalk and whether taking off the cover and squirting WD40 or electrical contact cleaner might help?

Sorry if I haven't explained this very well but I hope someone may be able to suggest a fix.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies, the arms appear tight on the spigot.

The problem is only when the wiper is on single wipe, would a faulty motor not also be problematic for continuous and intermittent wipe?

had a similar problem on my td5. found a few articles on here about it.
basically it was the park switch which was u/s. unfortunately its part of the wiper motor and the whole wiper motor needs replacing. cost me about £45 for a new one about a year ago. been fine since.

Had same problem on an x type jag and as others have said it was the park switch in the motor, so would say same problem with the LD.

Your wiper motor has had it. Had the same problem with my td5 a fortnight ago.
Bit fiddly to change but managed to do mine in about an hour. All good now :)

Have exactly the same issue with mine since my '52 hit 95k. I see the motors are only £35+VAT - assuming those who changed theirs, that it did actually resolve the issue?

Has anyone stripped the assembly to repair?

Cheers
Lea

And suddenly they begin to operate flawlessly again - weird. I guess I need to strip the motor assy to see what's wearing but it's Christmas, so might just wait till permanent failure!
