Hi all, my search for a Defender continues...

i've found a nice 1995 300 TDI and agreed reduced price with the seller but with the MOT running out in 2 months we came to an agreement where we would go halves on an MOT test.
It failed on the following;
Number plate damaged
Front and rear bushes passenger side
Horn not working
Windscreen wipers not resetting to flat level, they just stop at what ever position you turn them off

Bushes and number plate i'm not worried about but horn and wipers concern me.

Any suggestions as to what and to how much this may cost me to fix?

As above . could even be a fuse for the horn or even a wire off !! or defective horn... .
all easy stuff to do if your happy with it other than that go for it :)

One other thing - get the number plates made up first before the V5 is sent away , you need that + driving licence before they make a plate for you (spose to cut down on cloning ).
Otherwise it might take longer than your free retest time slot to get the docs back ... then you'll have to pay the full price for a new test ...........

I had a problem with my wipers not resetting when I picked my 300tdi up the other week, took the fuse out, manually adjusted the wiper position, put fuse back in and bingo, job done! Worth a try?!

I've been through 2 MOTs with my wipers not resetting themselves. I'm used to it, and it never seems to have bothered the testers :) When I bought it, I thought it was just like that anyway, and I thought that it didn't have auto-cancelling indicators until I replaced the stalk a few weeks ago :) (only because it wouldn't click in to full-beam fully, and kept jumping out)

The other way of doing it is to go to a place where the tester lets you be around, and then jump in and show him the wipers working -and switch them off at the right time! - Worked for me last year as well as the washers sprayer not working well!

However they are both easy to fix - the wiper motor is in the pod on the far left of the dash. The reset switch is cliped onto it with a litle spring clip. One of the three wires will be live all the time, one will come live when you switch he switch on, and the thrid one goes to the motor.

As for the horn - first check the fuse, then put a meter across the horn power feed and the body work to see if a voltage is there when you push the horn stick. if it is there then either the earth has gone (quite common as it gets covered in **** all the time) or the horn unit has packed up - again only a few quit for a new one.

As for the plates - you can get a new plate made up without the V5 - as long as you have the tear-off slip - but a few places won't do it with this bit - other optionis just to order online as tick the 'for display purposes only' box

Alright Steve! I was hiding under the landy yesterday, pressure washed 'er underneath, and I can't move any more lol... (and I found a couple of holes, just little ones though :/ )
