getting closer to mot readiness, put some new wiper arms and blades on.

drivers side doesn't move when resting on the windscreen but does when blade lifted off the screen.

also I can move the drivers side when the wiper motor is off but not the passenger side, presume something is worn or needs tightening up?

any ideas welcome :D

thx, got the dash top off, spindles seem to be working properly, the top plate on the drivers side was loose - probably me when I did the bulkhead swap - so I think the coily bit was just sliding over the bit that turns through the bulkhead when it met with resistance. working now so fingers crossed.

does seem well worn though

Done that as well when I reassembled mine just assumed both the same way up.
Should be one each way so wipers are at rest in the middle.Passenger side driven from top drivers side driven from bottom.

When I had trouble with mine I turned the wheel 180° which helped for a while, then fitted a new wheel box but every now and then the wiper would still adjust itself to try and wipe the vents.

A new spring drive thingy cured it in the end

I shall probably get a new springy drive thingy and wheely bits eventually then as they are quite worn as long as they work when it goes for its mot I will be happy :D

Blackburn, looks like I did it right originally then as they are now both the same way up, I think I prefer it that way. also they both work this way up :D.

might put it back the other way and turn the wheel as you suggest bb see if it does the trick whilst I have the dash off

I see busters is a fender, mechanism seems the same as the s3 but the wipers go in the same direction, so both are at the top, guess I shall leave it like I have it now then, maybe put it back to series standard if I do replace the coily and wheels

hope to get it mot'd in the next couple of weeks, or at least taken for one to see what it fails on, emissions is going to be the issue I think, might start calling the s3 whitesmoke :D

got a lot done today for me at my glacial pace, did the wipers, sucked the water through past the pump to get the washers going again, replaced the throttle cable, its always idled fast and the mechanism rested on the clutch pipe. I remember the garage I took it to in 2009 for its first mot saying they thought the accelerator cable was too short. none of the later ones mentioned it so i thought nothing of it till now. Got a new one from lrseries and it is a good inch and a half longer than the one that was on there. So now the mechanism on that long rod thing is clear of the clutch pipe and the idle is slow. Got the floor panels back in too.

big problem is going to be finding where I put the bolts for the wings and front bits, wings are on so it looks ok but I only tacked them back with a couple of the bolts. Need to get some conduit for the wiring in the engine bay. then a deep breath and off for the test

Been known to turn them over to get a 'fresh' bit of worm drive ....
