Morning all, I need help please... the wipers were a bit sluggish on my defender, so I got at the wiper motor, took off the motor, with the magnets and the threaded bit at the top, which revealed that the bushes were broken. I put it back together and now they don't move and the fuse blows when I move the stalk. I've clearly made matter worse........

MOT's coming up, so I want to buy a replacement motor, before it goes into the local indi for fitting and MOT etc., Do I just need to buy the motor? Or do I need to get the whole linkage aswell ?

I can see them on ebay for £50-£60 for the motor.

Cheers,

Cliff

If the motor wont turn without the linkage attached, then it's likely the motor.
If the motor works fine it's the linkage.

Double check the wiring as wiper motors have a permanent live so the can return to neutral...

You can buy the motor and the rack separately along with the tuning and the little threaded insert the nut screws into. I have just rebuilt mine with a new first section of tuning, new rack and an old motor a salvaged of my fire damaged bulkhead but I had several problems with mine. As above test the motor on its own, if this spins with no issue then it is the rack/tubing/wheel boxes that are the issue and need looking at. the wheel boxes can become stiff do if the motor and rack is removed test these as well.
