Wiper problems again!

Hi all, The wipers on my 2.5tdi have finally packed up. The problem seemed to begin a while ago when they didn't park properly. I ignored that. Then they went intermittent and just stopped working for no reason for a few seconds before restarting again on their own. I ignored that. The intermittent problem got slowly worse. I ignored that, too. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/images/smilies/smilies/lalala.gif Now they're just stuck half way up the screen and no switch position on the wiper control stalk will budge 'em an inch. Fuse looks fine. Can't find the relay to check it, though. What's the most likely cause of this problem? I'm guessing I can't be the first to have suffered it? Thanks.

Could the teeth on the gear in the motor assembly have stripped (left hand side of the dash). With the engine off, can you hear the motor working?

I've heard some people strip the assembly, turn the gear 180 degrees and rebuild and it works like new...Might be worth stripping it and taking a look.

it's the Park switch Mine had exact same sympton new switch and they work perfectly on all positions. and all speeds

Tooth wear on the wheel means they skip around and end up off the screen

Thanks, all. Seems the easiest thing to do first then might be to check out the park switch. Er, where can it be found? Mine's a 2003 model td5, bwt.

they changed over 2002 earlier ones were fairly obvious I've not seen the later ones. but they are apparently a bit higher up.

Passenger side lower dash section. 4 screws on the cover then the switch is easily spotted on the wiper motor.
