I'm sorry guys but I don't even know what the setting is called that isn't working (Great start eh) so I'll have to describe my problem...

My wipers work fine (As fine as defender wipers can do) so on intermittent they work spot on, on low speed and high speed they work fine....but when I push the stalk up when I want to do a random wipe, as soon as I let go of the stalk the wipers grind to a halt???o_O

Its not the end of the world, but it is a little annoying....so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers:(

You must have a posh defender. My wipers only have 2 settings. Very slow and slow. A flick up gives me single wipe. My guess would be a connection/switch problem at the stalk as all your normal wiper work, so the fault must lie there. Connections probably need a clean.

Now they have stopped working (I.e. returning to the parked position) on all settings????

Don't you just love these little defender traits!

Ah well that's more likely to be the parking switch. Have a search as it comes up regularly.

Edit. Sorry, I misread that as not returning to parking positions. If you are now having issues with all settings, that would point to a relay or earthing issue. As a starting point, identify the wiper relay and clean it's terminals. Check the bulkhead earthing point.

The return to park function relies on a good permanent power and earth supply to the motor. If they are OK, then there's a little park relay built in to the motor unit. If you have the will and skills, you can strip the unit and tweak it - or replace the motor unit.
