I went to use the wipers the other day and they made a graunching sound and got stuck halfway across the screen, as the motor was still trying to move them I gave them a helping hand and they eventually worked on their own, however today the passenger arm is moving and the drivers seems like it's slipping somewhere. The arm is tight on the spindle below the screen so assume its a problem elsewhere, where do I start?

Finally got around to ordering the parts from my local LR specialists, went to pick them up and was surprised to find they were Britparts, which I gather are less than the best for quality. I thought what the hell, how bad can a wiper parts be? Fitted them today and after getting the dash all back together I find the drivers wiper is doing exactly the same again. Has anyone experienced these parts failing so spectacularly early? Should I cut my losses and order online from somewhere that supplies better quality parts?

I did some work on my wipers last week. I fitted a new motor and thought I might as well fit new spindles and rack and had the same problem. The wipers worked fine for a little while and I marvelled at the nice new decisive action. However after a couple of days the passenger one stopped working. It turned out to be the gear wheel on the inside of the spindle slipping on the spindle. I swapped it for the least bad of the original ones. A bit of judicious work with a hammer and punch will tighten it up, but it's a shame when you can't trust new components.
