As we now have snow and lots of idiots going out to play I wrote this for our laning group
WINTER LANING PREP.
Think it’s time we reminded everyone about this. When leaders offer to show people routes they have certain minimum expectations about those following them. If you don’t meet these then it’s only fair to tell the group you are in BEFORE setting off, they can then choose whether to take you.
Well maintained vehicle with tax, MOT and insurance
4 wheel drive of some sort. Low box or equivalent and diff lock if appropriate. I know some vehicles have different stuff but whatever it is should be working
Minimum AT tyres with plenty of tread
Recovery points designed for off road recovery, not tie down points or stuff that screws into the bumper.
At least a tow rope designed for high loads. Not a bit of string from the pound shop
Outdoor clothing and appropriate footwear, even the passengers. Change of clothes, gloves, extra clothes and sleeping bag or blanket are also advised
Food and drink in case you are stuck for hours
At least one spare tyre with appropriate tread and that fits your vehicle. Tools to change wheels
Recovery service as groups will only try to get you help back to tarmac and phone signal
Plenty of fuel
Anything I’ve missed ?
