So today i finally got round to replacing the inner front wing.

Thought i would do a post for 3 reasons...

1) it was easily the most complex procedure i have done to date on the defender and i am quite proud.

2) when i was searching i couldnt find anything definitive asnto whether the new plastic wings were suitable instead of the old metal ones and in fact some places saidnno they arent compatible., they are, absolutely perfect fit and pretty sturdy. And about a quarter of the price too.

3) there are two fir tree fittings on the wheel arch liners which have correspondimh female parts, kind of like a nut i guess for the fir tree, to grip into. And i have lost one... Does anybody know what they are called and where i can find anotjer?!

Thanks :) in the end i found it using the above diagram, ordered one and then found the original under the truck this morning... Typical.

Then went to fit it to discover that the plastic wheel arch is identical to the galvanised in every way except for the hole for that fir tree fitting... Lol. So didnt need it anyways!

Its what the pumas have... Part number LR053804. On lr workshop it says this part replaced AWJ710460 which superceded AWJ710390 which i think is one of the galvanised ones. Either way Lrworkshop says the new one would fit my 2006 TD5... I spoke to landrover and they said it wouldnt fit, but at 100 vs £400 i thought it was worth a punt and it worked perfectly :)
