windscreen removal??

what is the best way to remove the windscreen? I'm currently striping a 98 disco for my rebuild and i need to get it out.

On the Discovery 1's the windscreen is held in by a rubber seal (MWC8304) and some filler strips (MXC8199, I think).

The rubber seal is an expensive item (a quick check shows it around £70) so it is worth being careful with.

Remove the windscreen wipers first, a simple 13mm nut and tease them off, some location marks will help with re-fit...

The windscreen has filler strips, in 4 parts, in this seal which lock the glass in place, so the first thing is to tease these out...the strip can be brittle so to edge it out with a screw driver all the way and don't get too confident and start pulling else it will snap... the fillers are mitred and maybe different lengths, (I always mark for location)...

Once you have removed all 4 fillers it is basically a case of pushing the windscreen from inside and it will pop out...
Safety notes: consider gloves and eye protection if inside.

Have a second person to help 'control' the screen as it pops out ...

The rubber strip usually stays stuck to the vehicle and can be carefully removed, if you have any rust on the 'lip' of the opening make sure to remove it from the rubber coz it's nasty and will make re-fit a crap job ...

Cut out from inside.thwt will save the trims on outside which are expensive.

Cut the bonding away.and push out from inside.

i don't need to save the trims tbh because I'm scraping all the body, but ill give it a go at the weekend and see how i get on.

Yep, directly glazed. IOW: bonded.

Job for an experienced hand. Where does the car live? I'll see if i can put you in touch with someone decent.

thanks for the offer mate but i don't need it out in one piece tbh so if needs be ill just smash it out. atm I'm just trying to avoid making a mess lol

I just thought it would be easier.
I guess I could just leave it in the frame and just cut above a below it once I get my hands on an angle grinder. I'm planing on choping the body shell up to get rid of it anyway

Haven't you got a local scrappy who would just come and take it away for you? Might even pay you a couple of bob as well?
