Well…

My spot lights are finally mounted on the roof and working with the 3 position switch (thanks to everyone that helped with the wiring diagrams).

For the last few days I've been out in Salisbury during the night, adjusting the lights and generally playing around (completely different experience going out at night!)

Anyway… why am I here (again)…well, this time..windscreen glare!!!
When I took the disco out for the first time I just couldn’t see anything in front of me, too much lights getting in the cab meant the whole dashboard reflected on the windscreen and couldn’t see anything in front of me….

Read a bit around and found out some people would put a strip of black electrical tape on the bottom edge of the lamps…tried that, even put 2 strips! but still get some reflection!
I mounted my spots under the bar as I don’t fancy them being ripped off by a branch when going laning…

Anyway.. how can I sort this glare problem? anyone has had the same?what have you done?
I've heard that spraying the dashboard matt black will sort it out.. but will it? anyone done this before?

here's a pic of how the spots are mounted.

Camel Trophy Discoverys used this matt black (Sticker? Paint?) on the bonnet to stop the glare.

Ooo I see!
that might help....but then again, yesterday my bonnet was covered in mud and was still getting glare..

I've seen loads of pics here of people with lights mounted as me... no one has ever had this problem before that could come forward and give me some tips..?

please?
lol

waxoyl.. yeh! that sounds good, maybe brake fluid as well to add on the mixture? lol

I might try and find a sheet of matt black adhesive and put on the bonnet, see if it works.

The problems is that the light can get down on to the windscreen. On the camel disco, the lights are set further back so the bit of roof stops the light. Have at look at the X-Lite and you'll see the light is set back in the casing. You could probably do the same but sticking a small lip on the underside of the spotlight. Just a thought

haa right!
I might have a go on that solution Steve, before going for the matt back vinyl on the bumper...

maybe try first with cardboard around or similar and then if it works, build some kind of casing around....

thanks for that

You're effectively casting a shadow over the windscreen - You should be able to get the lip perfect so the light just misses the bonnet but hits the road exactly where you need it to. Let us know how you get on

you can get casings for the spotlights, they clip over the front and have a slight 'base' on them that stops the light leaking round the sides and bottom. google spotlight covers and there should be some on there. they sometimes have grills on them aswell to help stop the glass gettin smashed

right, going to try and find something like that!
if not I'll just have to end up fabricating something like that... but going to try first with cereal box or something...

The problems you are havin are because roof mounted lights are for show, not for actually seeing where you're going.

OOooo.. I thought was due to the fact of being actually used at night, in a dark lane, and as the lights are being used, they emit that shiny white stuff....what's the name? Ooo right! light! and that reflects on the windscreen...

lol

Trouble is you see unless you can find a way of stoppin the glare and also stopping the ****ers illuminatin yer bonnet thus destroying yer night vision they are in fact flamin useless and therefore just ornaments to impress the chavs as you drive by in yer orf roader:)

yep, exactly that what im trying to find out how

and if I wanted to impress, I would have bought a range rover vogue with blacked out windows and big rims, not a ****ty old rusty disco.. lol
