Im replacing the windscreen brackets soon because my leak badly and are in a pretty poor state, the question I have is do I use sealant along with the gasket? The previous owner has filled the gaps up in the brackets, is this a good idea or just leave as intended?

I intend to use some 2mm closed cell foam each side of the gasket, so there's no mess from wiping sealant everyehere.

Mine are just a thin bit of plastic. Put them on the foam as a template and cut with craft knife. Will be doing the same with all door hinges aswell.

filling the back with silicone is a good idea ,stops corrosion forming where you dont see it and creeping round to where it shows ...roger ,wilkos , over and out ,,,,,lol

I replaced mine a few months ago, new ones came with plastic gaskets and I just used them. After seeing this thread I'm thinking of taking them off and getting some wilko foam to do a slightly better job.
