Hi all at the moment im am with my Range Rover in Serbia and all of a sudden the electric windows ,Sunroof and mirror adjusters have packed up.In fact none of the center console is working nor the back window buttons wont work.
There is no Fuse fault showing on the message centre but also i have checked all the fuses just to make shure
Does anyone know if there is a relay that operates the center console and windows
Thanks for any help.
The Range Rover is 1999 DSE P38

All the centre console switches go through an outstation called, funnily enough, the Centre Console Switch Pack Oustation. The rear window switches mounted on the doors though obviously don't go through this but straight to the BeCM. However, they're probably isolated by the switch on the centre console. The power for this unit is from F1. If this is OK, it's more then likely you have a duff switch pack outstation. Sorry to be the bearer and all that. It's mounted underneath the switches on the tunnel. Do the obvious and check that the plugs etc are all secure.

ive got the identical problem with windows and mirrors on my p38--all suddenly gave up the ghost---fuses ok ---how do i access the centre console to check the pug connectons please

david

Inside the cubby box, two screws right at the top of the front edge. With them out the switch pack will tilt forward. Be gentle the front edge of it is jammed under the gear lever surround.

done that---not a lot visibe except a wiring harness going out someplace---do you know if there any connectors outside anywhere

Had a quick nose on mine and I see what you mean.
A quick look at Rave says that this switch pack goes directly into the BECM, there is no outstation. It might take me a little longer to get you a connection number.

Fuse number one by the BECM definitely O.K.?

:D

There are three earths showing for these functions E0807, E0808 & E0809. One is on the BECM itself but the other two are on either side of the boot. I'd suggest that a good (and cheap) start would be to check these.

Hi all thanks for all the replies Im sorry i didnt get back to you all as I was in Serbia when the fault occurred and had intermittent internet,
When we got to Kosovo and was on the outskirts of Pristina I saw aland rover dealership and called in to see if they could help and guess what they had a test book and put in onit and told me the outstation was knackered and could sell me a new one or a secondhand one .I went the secondhand option and havnt had any trouble since.
Sorry it took so long to reply

i did wonder if it might be an earth---cant get hold of an electrical diagram--trying to get some idea from my haynes manual of a discovery but without much success.where abouts in the boot is the earth?recently i had a load of logs in the back, and my spare wheel was flat so i have been playing around in the boot and spare wheel area, and swept it out also.taking the spare to have it fixed i put the spare behind the drivers seat on the floor next to the centre console!!

found the earth in the boot--cant find the earth at the centre console--can find out how it comes apart---checked all the fuses---the message screen would tell me if fuses gone----got frozen to the marrow----given up for now-----looks like garage here i come

Well now I'm totally confused. According to my copy of RAVE these switches link straight to the BECM. However OVAL has now reported a knackered outstation.

Sometimes I wish that I drank, then I could blame that.

Sorry I didnt mean outstation i meant to say switch pack in the center console and thats easy to replace just expensive.

Hang on, OVAL's been back on.

So the question now is - have you got any friends

who also drive a Rangie? Sounds like you want to borrow a working switch pack and see if it works in yours.
If you had your location in your details there might even be someone on here willing to help you out, but . . . . .

:D

whats a becm when its at home? and is there a wiring diagram of the p38 that i can peruse----a cct diagram would be useful on other occassions too

hell DB---dont have any friends with RR--besides it would have to be a jolly good friend who would take the switch pack out---i'm not sure i would want to do that--it might give more problems than it solved.Apart from the bunch of wires going in at the bottom there is a black and red that are apart from the rest that plug into the middle of the switch pack----any idea what these are for?---i dont have a sun roof but there is a blank switch in the centre of the switch pack .ive searched high and low for a cct diagram, but to no avail.I cant believe that the window circuitry is closely tied up with the mirror---if windows go went faulty then surely the mirrors ought to work unless there is a common fault like battery and earth------the plot thickens!!

The BeCM (Body Electrical Control Module) is the central brain for the whole car....

It has its dirty little fingers in all the P38's pies (the ECU's for the ABS, EAS, EAT, Transfer Box, GEMS/EDC/Motronic, Door Outstations, et al)

It is a complex bit of kit that is a common source of irritation for the average P38 owner....

Those with a full fat Diagnostic device are better prepared for the BeCM throwing a wobbly and either disabling the whole car, or causing it to do alsorts of odd things, it has been known to turn the wipers on if you flash your lights...!!!

Switch pack out is only three screws, in Rangie terms - nothing.
The connection into the centre is only the illumination for the switches. There's one bulb and an imitation fibre optic system.
As for a wiring diagram get a copy of RAVE, the workshop manual. There's a massive electrical section including a fault finding guide.

Some where in the switch pack there is a common feed to all the switches and I think that has packed up as it did on mine.
