I need to remove the driver's side window frame on my D2 to replace the channel run. Can I do so without removing the actual glass, if I am careful? Assume the frame once the bolts have been removed will just slide out over the glass, and I then can slide back after fitting new channel run...?

thank you - I had found this excellent post but don't want to take the glass out if I don't have to. Just wondered if anyone had taken the window frame out but left the glass in place...

I don't see that there is any way to do that? I recently changed one of mine and it was just part of the process. I can't see why you wouldn't want to remove the glass - just gaffa tape it to the frame, undo the two bolts from the regulator and lift frame and glass out as one unit. Then fit glass to new frame and drop it back in.

Cheers!

So I took the window frame and glass out, fitted new channel run and put all back together. The when reattaching glass I noticed one of the white nylon wheels had shattered and now the window goes up ok but there is a bang and a wobble before it comes down. Also one of the x arms is a bit bent now. Can you replace that wheel or do you have to replace the whole unit?
