Apart from the visual difference, what is the point of having the solonoid over the drum rather than to the side? Basically, for occasional use off-road do I want a 'standard' or a 'i' winch?

It's slightly higher so more likely to be out of the mud when going downhill or wading ...

I'd guess each company have their own 'ideas' as to why there's an 'i' version, ask them .. I'd guess a lot of it is 'cos they want to be seen to have a bridge type in their range.

what winch yet looking at?
And get a tirfor.
knew that was coming:p

theres no benefit atall of having an over bridge version, plus the solenoids are generally crap in them

i had the warn xd9000i winch in the end i cut of the bridge as i used allbright solenoids located in the engine bay

depending what motor your putting it on one without a bridge may mean less cutting of the grill

oh and dont get a tirfor

Was looking at either the superwinch talon 12000lb or TDS Goldfish 12000lb.
Any experiences?
It's going on my 110 hardtop.

The Goldfish has great reviews. david bowyer had one on the goodwinch stand all last year running submersed in water. It was running all weekend apparently.

Thats got to count for something right?

this was the warn xd9000i when i was first using it
