winch questions again lol newbie

or just buy the correct rated winch and not expect an underpowerd winch to work harder hence increasing the risk of it giving up the ghost,;)
a disco stuck up to its axles in mud is going to be very difficlut to budge with a 4000lb winch no matter how many snatch blocks and straps you put on it

If it's to get you out the deep stuff (and I aint talking about mud) any winch is better than no winch. A smaller winch properly used can out-perform a larger winch used badly. If it's for every day use then yes I'd agree that the bigger the rating on the winch the better.
 
no the winch isnt for everyday use.i have ropes etc in the disco and was offered this baby winch practically free so thought any winch would be better than no winch.as i said at the start of the thread im a newbie at all this off roading lark and dont want to go out spending thousands on a hobby that might not last.obviously the more i do it then the more ill upgrade but as you all know,all these guards,covers,winches etc can add up to alot of money.

yes they can,but they can also save you a lot of money on repairs aswell

totally agree a winch is better than no winch,go get it then buy yrself a snatch block or 2
