Bloke at work clearning his garage out knew I was into LR's... so he says do you want a winch or 2 ?????
Heres me thinking they were some cheapo ebay ****e that will lift about 100kg and the one I collected first is a superwich EP9.....cable has seen better days but its all there

Now heres me questions and I think I know the answers but just want to check...

My LWT is a hybrid (the one in the avatar) built on a 85 (ish) cutdown RR chassis.... so does the disco / defender / RR chassis's all have the same chassis width where a winch bumper could be attached to at the front or is it a case of getting a RR classic winch bumper only? (chassis legs are approx 31" wide measuring from the outsides)

Second, I know it needs a 2nd battery with a split charger system but what battery is ideal just for a winch....? normal 12v car, leisure, high amps per hour?

Cheers All.....

Don't know any of the answers about width but you don't NEED a 2nd battery to run a winch so long as you use it with the engine running and a fairly short work cycle.

Used mine for 5 years regularily with no issues before I got round to fitting a split charge system

The Disco 1 is on a rrc chassis so they are the same as for tratters somebody will be along soon with that answer im sure, the EP9 is a reasonable winch i have the EPi9 same but with the integral solenoid housing, what i would recommend though is stripping down the winch when the cable is off and giving the gearbox a strip, clean and regrease I did mine a while ago and it was like a new winch after.

there was some mud and moisture in my gearbox on the winch and the free spool was always a bastard to pull out but now its silky smooth, only took about 3 hours start to finish, if you want the exploded diagrams of the winch let me know and i will send it you.

oh and you is a jammy barsteward:)

Thanks guys, finally got round to fitting the winch bumper, this weekend the winch is getting fitted....
It has the wired remote switch and does fire the motor in both directions and the cables to the battery are in good condition but do I need a winch solenoid ?

... and if you don't want it or don't use it, £10 and a Mars bar .. and I'll collect .. ;)

If your main battery ever needs replacing it might be worth thinking about fitting the largest numax style in it's place.
