yeah i can see your use of a winch being time sensitive ratty and winch challenges etc needing speed, but like you sed any speed is better than stuck.Would a higher pull be more desiarble than a higher pull speed?

how easy are hydraulic winches to install?? and are they a lot more expensive?

It would be cheaper and easier to go for a PTO shaft driven winch. You would be looking at around £300-£600 for the PTO, shaft and winch.

When you say the right pump.....

The flow speed of the pump needs to be matched with the flow rate of the winch for max efficiency.

Occasionally the complete systems come up on abay but not very often.

Tirfors are good all rounders. You don't even need to have your vehicle near the casualty to use em. Electric is best if you want vehicle mounted and it's for occasional (get you out the **** type) short pulls. PTO or hydraulic are for longer pulls.

If money is an object I would go for a tirfor or cheap leccy winch.

any suggestions for a gd pto winch and where to get one from?? Dont want to buy a crappy one or pay to much for one. :D
