Are you actually looking for grease specifically for your winch or just a good general purpose one - if so just a lithium based one.

Yep thats what we used in the brigade for the geary bits, the rest was hydraulic oil scooshed on coz anyfing else and the **** welds itself to it.
If it has any nylon bits in it then silicon based grease or yer gona **** it up, but depends on winch I guess.

if its just grease yer lookin for , try lm2 muti purpose lithium grease , its good stuff ... high melt point aswell ...

what about wd40 for the cable
dont see why not , it displaces water so i would say good idea ....

Engine oil is better. WD40 washes off too quick.
