Ok been thinking I am going to get a Winch for my Disco.

The main reason been that they look cool! :D

The second is that the bumpers that they make for them are even cooler!

Then I have been thinking... To disguise this fact I dont want to look like its only there for show  I need to get a rear one too! (Who else would get two if they didnt NEED them?)

But then that rockets to like 1k-2k! For somthing to look good which I would probably use 10 time!

Then I was thinking

If I were to get a bumper that has the 2 recovery eye holes on the front I could make a plate that can be attached to these which would have the winch attached to. It may need a suport to stop it dropping down in front of the driven path!

I would then attach it when I know I am going off road and may get in a sticky mess!

Then I get the cool Bumper for all the time, I dont have to worrie about people nicking the winch or worse pratting about with it on free spool!

I can use it front and rear.

Then if I were to have the same attachments made to the roof/roll cage should I get one I can also use it from the top should the need arrise! lol

I can also store it in the garage and not have to carry the extra weight when I know I wont need it.

Granted its only at the first Idea stage but any thoughts?

its an idea i'll grant you............ totally impractical though, when you fit a winch you need power to it this is normally in the form of a dedicated winch battery, this will have large cables running to the winch! (one + one - ) it would be a lot (and i mean A LOT) of hassle removing and fitting the winch each time you want to go offroad.

most people fit a winch and leave it on, then get a winch cover (looks like a holdall) that straps over the top of the winch to keep the weather off and also stops people messing with it, and they don't just look like they are for show when they have a cover.

fitting a rear winch is quite an undertaking, for a start your gonna need to get power to it, and mount it, yes they do rear mounting bumpers but have you seen them! they look like they weigh 5 ton on there own!

and roof winch?????????

some extreme winch challenge vehicles have a centre winch which exits via the top of the roll cage but unless you plan to do some serious modifications its gonna be just silly

Power aint a problem as its already in! We have anderson connectors for the cherry pickers, but it was alread there on my truck.

For the rear I was thinking of some form of attachment to the tow bar.

Roof Granted would come in later on if I were to get the roll over cage!

Thinking about it tho you have given me a plan! I may get a Winch bumper and put a wood block under a Winch cover! All angles covered! Till I get stuck and someone recomends using the winch! lol

sello tape a winch to ya roof bars if ya not gunna use it it'll be fine

people know who builds their trucks for show,

simple by the fact WE will be the ones pulling you out ONCE ya stuck :p

Ok, so considering you want it literally just for show and it may get used a couple of times just for the sake of getting stuck and winching out i assume, could you not just save yourself 2k and get a tirfor for £100 instead? If you're wondering what a tirfor is, its a really good hand winch cable puller. Stick it in the back of your disco and get it out if you ever get stuck. I would get one, but as a poor student I can't justify it!!
Seriously, if you're basically gonna waste on aesthetics, why bother? Give it to me!!!

1k-2k! For somthing to look good which I would probably use 10 time !!!! are u mad :hippie::crazy::hysterically_laughi:rofl:

You will use it every possible chance you get on your first 2 outings, then after that you will realise its far too much ballache everytime and you will do your recovering with a rope again.

If you get a winch on the front, always go second that way if the lead car gets stuck you can winch him backwards, if you take lead and get stuck and there's no recovery points infront of you its game over and "the landy with the winch getting pulled out by shogun with rope" will be the youtube title.

You can get towball mount winches ex AA etc, not mega but would do the job in an emergency

The hand winch would not justify the cool looking bumper....

And who said anything about geting stuck in mud?!?!?!

I dont off road this one! Its simply there to look rock hard and give off a good company image!

I am looking for another one to start taking off road at the moment. (Which would also make sence to have one that is transplantable as then I can use it on both of them! Just get a cheaper bumper for the toy)

Lol you lot telling me that if your wife asked for cosmetic surgary you would say....
2k for big tits! No chance!

Also it is only like doing the headlight conversion...

!BUgOsPQBWk~$(KGrHgoH-DsEjlLl0BVjBKN3qdUSrw~~_35.JPG

It already has lights so why change them?

Coz they look better!

yes but the headlight conversion also has a purpose, with newer and brighter lights. putting half a dozen winches on a car that will never leave the road......you got to be kidding??

Dont slag the headlight conversion!!! :mil13:

Not slagging them off they are the next modification I am looking at! lol Just saying that it had a set before that worked..... now it has a set that work and look good!

Think I saw a photo of yours before is it a loneranger pick up conversion?
