Finally got the winch fitted after having to plug away a bit at a time between work and the weather!! If anyone wants to know how to take the front bumper off a facelift then I'm your man, must of taken it off and put it on over a hundred times marking it up for cuts etc !!!

Warrior have moved the location of the control box from the top of the barrel to over the motor so there's a slightly different approach to how the bumper has to be cut to accommodate it.

Took some pictures along the way because I know it's an often raised topic on here so anyone thinking of doing it can get an idea of whats involved (if you haven't already!).

It all began here....

Took a couple of hours to get to stage two. The side brackets didn't quite line up correctly where they drop down to the bottom bolt, but a bit of heating up and it was soon sorted.

Winch dropped in. Plenty of room for the radiator!!

The air ducts have to be chopped at the bottom. The nearside one is handy for tying the negative cable to....

Ready for the front bumper to go on....

As can be seen in the reflection, the registration plate lives on the roof rack now. Is it legal, is it not, who cares ?!?!? Will be boring you all with another thread next week on Project Roof Rack !!

Couple of things left to do....

Firstly I'm having an alloy spacer made to go between the bracket and the fairlead to fill the gap and hide the lock nuts I had to fit. It's impossible to get at the bolts with the winch in position so a captive nut or bolt would be a good addition to the bracket.

And finally I'm just waiting for a blanking plug to arrive to place in this here hole. I've cut a slot into a long reach socket to turn the clutch lever. Cutting a hole big enough to get my hand in would of been a bit too much I think!!

And there you have it. Cutting out the front bumper was the longest part of the job. I did it in two stages. Firstly with just the bracket on and then with the winch on, otherwise there's just too much to take in as for the most part you're working blind.

Pleased with the end result, just need to go get stuck in a ditch now or find a marooned Disco............. :)

I thought it all hid behind the plastic bumper like matacaibo's one, or are you using a different winch and bracket?

Same bracket and same winch except Warrior have moved the control box from the centre to the side. I rang Warrior to see if there were any of the old type around but they haven't made them like that for 6 months, I had a ring around all the stockists I could find and they were all the new type. Apparently the control box was getting damaged a lot either by being knocked off the top or getting pushed off by the cable if it wasn't evenly spread across the drum.
