Help The old T-max ewi12000 packed up ,Have bought a new contactor and put it on .However the contactor only works when it is isolated from the disco body. When fixed to the body the solenoid works then drops off and then continues to chatter on/off (Both in and out).
Control wiring i;ve used is live to handset then swithed live to the two outer conections on the contactor and the centre joint i have tied down to earth /neutral.
Contactor looks similar to the Goodwinch diagram off the internet.
Does the contactor body have to be insulated from the car body ??
have I got my wiring wrong ??

I call the whole thing a contactor and the individual coils in the contactor solenoids .
No pictures as yet.
It works as long as the contactor body is away from the car body.Tested on the bench and all appeared OK but I did not connect contactor body to the neutral when i tested it .Which is what happens when put on the car .
My concern is that i have purchased a faulty item and or i have to insulate the contactor .
Thanks for the interest

throw it away and buy an albright solenoid
there watertight and bloody reliable

The one you shown is almost identical to mine .The difference is the control wire terminals yours has spade connectors and mine has screwed connections .
The two screws on the body are earthed on mine .and are only 1/4 inch long .
You only show one wire to the centre connection is this correct ?
I think mine is an Allbright contactor .

PS
Bought mine from Winch Solutions on wed ,arrived today £35 plus VAT plus postage.
There are no markings on the body.
Testing the contactor on the car i have used a charger to supply the live with the neutral on the bumper .Have not connected the power wiring as yet .

Thanks .I have wired it correctly according to your diagram.BUT i have not connected the earth wire to the motor ground wire just bolted it to the winch body inside the contactor enclosure.
And it works as long as the contactor does not touch the body ground.
I am going to take the whole winch of the car and try it again .Will also take some pictures .

Dear All have now got it working.
Having looked at the diagrams and confirming my wiring was correct and that the winch itself worked off the car i then shorted the POWER cable from the battery to the winch and it worked .The ISOLATION switch allowed volts to pass but no current .
As the isolation switch is all enclosed i never suspected this could go wrong as it still had a significant spring pressure when operated .

Are these switches known for going wrong ?

Thanks to all for the advice
