Freelander 1 winch advice

Looking for a winch for my 1999 2.0 tdi (not td4) I've seen the mainfield winch mount but it says it will fit td4 will it fit mine as well? If not what others are out there?

The body didn't change between years, regardless of engines fitted. You might find something on the DI is in the way whereas it might not on the TD4. But the basic body is the same.

Nope... chassis rails where winch is bolted are different (longer). Mount for td4 DON'T fit 98-00 cars.

Can a winch be mounted on bull bars/ a bar/ ram bar whatever u want to call them

Yes, but you'll need the strengthened nudge bars or adapt your existing one. They are a six point mounting arrangement and they have different, stronger mounting points to the bumper mounts and the lower ends too. The winch is able to be attached / detached readily via a mounting plate which it sits on. There are images of these in the 2015 Rimmer Bro [FL 1997-2000]parts & acc list, see p17 & 25.
