Wiltshire green lanes

Waiting for information from the council to see if they are just restricting this 1 stretch.
This has been like it for years but they are probably getting ammo to close this section. If only the tractor drivers that use this during closed season used a disk harrow all the ruts will be gone and all be flat again.
These pics are from the restricted lane in January

Also informed the council ROW was not updated and this has now been done. Confirming only 3mile stretch affected.

So this is my new proposed route for a jolly on Monday.

Been out today & brilliant day. Dry on most lanes apart from the odd puddle.
The emergency closure of the ridgeway is well marked & gates still locked which is good to see.
Long grass hiding some rough ruts.
No other 4x4 users encountered only 2 different groups of trail riders.

View attachment 142572 View attachment 142573 View attachment 142574 Always up for a days off-roading and 1 appeared. Got invited to drive some Wiltshire green lanes was informed there is water/ford crossings & possible scratchy paint due to overgrowth.
What s day. :)
Sun,dry weather and lanes I've never drove before even though I live 30 mins away from the start.
Cracking company & I will return the favour of sending routes.
;)
Very cool. I’m heading out this way in a month or so. Any chance you could share the start points of some of the lanes (via PM?). Happy with just an OS grid reference. Thanks.

@300bhp/ton
Where area do you want to Start?
Heading over from Buckinghamshire direction. Will be out laning for 4 days. I’ve got some bits planned already. But would welcome any suggestions. So o don’t mind where they are exactly. And it’s always good to know which lanes to avoid or ones that have been closed.

Many thanks.

I have some that start in didcot Oxford way. Then come to Wiltshire
This would be 2 days worth.
Oxford is tight(bit like diesels earlier video).
You can then head towards sailbury plain which is about 40 miles away still picking lanes up all day.

Will look on OS but you will need to check on GLASS site to make sure all is ok.
You use GPX?

Many thanks. Really appreciate it. And yes checking Glass is always good.

Sorry not sure what GPX is.

It's way points. Like following a sat nav.
How do you follow the routes you plan? Do mark them on OS maps or on a gps/computer system
Here's 2 screen shots. 1 of a route
The other shows as a red line to follow. This is off my OS account & think £30/year run it on an iPad.

Other options are view ranger and you can send files of routes to each other

Ok gotcha.

I used something called Outdoors GPS (think it was called OutdoorGB at one time). Looks like it’s an OS maps app. I can view online or download all of the OS land ranger and explorer maps. So it shows all of the BOATS and rights of way (so just need to check for TRO’s before driving). And can plot and record routes with waypoints.

Grid Reference or lay/long are fine and I can find the start or a lane using either. If you have any files you can share there is an import feature on the apps website so I might be able to do something with them. I’ll message you my email address.

Thanks again. :)

Update.
There is a bike ride on the 3rd June using lanes around barbury castle. Start time 10.00 on all day.
Route 45 chiseldon to hackpen
Rockley up 4mile clump to ogbourne.
EarthLine up the ridgeway then back down the single track.
Other route is on bridalways
Route will be marked & bikes are quick down hill;)
Thanks

Few more miles on lanes today.
Some well marked, some you have to check your map & bearings.
Encountered a VR but no dates etc so looks like it's a winter one not been removed(Not on the wilts closure site)
Someone been filling holes in
All these lanes I have not drove before. Getting a good loop of miles & views on each outing.
Still have miles to check/drive
