well thats what i was thinking - i got no issue roughing it in a bivvy bag and sleepingbag, im quite happy starting early early on the saturday and driving all day through sunday, just stopping for lunch and that, get as many lanes in as possible so you can choose which ones are best, and work out difficulty levels etc. just as long as noone on the recce comes along with road tyres we should be able to cover alot more ground than on the actual weekend, so we can workout exactly which bits are best off doin

will the weather make any difference to if the routes are gonna be/not be suitable for the petrol drinkers out there?

I figured as it's Feb and probably very cold peeps would prefer motel/B&B so going to find one that's big enough o take 22 vehicles. but I can look for a place that offers camping as well. Once we get closer to the trip I'll get people to pm me their preference.

There is a place called the Red House/Red Lodge or summat on junction of A303/A338 at Cholderton which supposedly give good winter rates or theres that Holiday Inn thingy at Solstice Park ;)

i would imagine so. its things like that that a recce can flag up. go along, find a big water run thats tyre depth, but would be alot deeper after rain or whatever. would give a chance to grade the routes, and work then work out which bits are suitable. no good a bloke with a disco on road tyres coming along and then getting stuck every 10 minutes coz the stuff is too muddy if it can be avoided - have the more road orientated vehicles miss out the most severe stuff or whatever? i dunno

I aint road orientated, just not a boat! That said i reckon i might have rid of me classic by then and be rolin in me disco....but we will see.

I've already got a route planned out I just need to drive it and make sure it's gonna be driveable by a std landyy on 235/70/16's. No point reccing it in a lifted monster truck with huge wheels and then saying "oh yes it's drivable." As I said in the early posts AT's or muds are gonna be a requirement. as are recovery points and a rope/strop/chain etc. If there's a deep section that can't be got round we can always tow the petrol injun'd motors thru the worst.

The whole idea is to have a laugh and tackle some wet/muddy lanes that wouldn't/shouldn't be driven when in such a state under normal circumstances. But it's not gonna be a gungho macho big boys toys trip. If we end up having to tow someone half way round because they keep getting stuck, then so be it.

Can i throw my name into the hat please? I've had some discos and a couple of series 3's but now i've got a lifted v8 disco i want to have a go at what owning one these vehicles is all about... this will probably be my first proper off roading adventure so ought to be an eye opener.. I've got some half worn colway MT's i'll put on for the weekend. i assume these are ok?

Ive jus been informed that a certain member on ere will leave me on Salisbury Plain on this ere trip in Feb.... if I dont start bein nice to him   Me finks I may need another passenger seat :D ;)
