My 01 Td5 90 has started making a wierd vibrating noise coming from the rear end.

It occurs at low revs only, in other words when I go to accelerate from 27mph in 5th, i get the vibrating noise up until about 35mph, on anything but very gentle throttle openings.

Same from about 25ish mph in 4th, 18 in 3rd. 13ish in 2nd, and 4/5ish in 1st.

Any ideas? Only started recently after a trip up a gentle greenlane, with nothing more than one mild axle twister, so can't have broken anything. I hope!!!

Any help really appreciated!

I haven't yet, had the vehicle since february, only put 1500 miles on it since, needs a service beginning of next year (58000), although it had the obvious stuff done before I bought it (oil changes etc.) or so I was told.

Find it strange how it only occurs at a specific engine speed. Took it out for a drive again this morning, and having second thoughts about it coming from the rear, it's difficult to tell as it doesn't do it for long.

I have found if I put it in 5th at 30 where it makes the noise, accelerate and brake at the same time, as long as I hold the speed constant it will continue to make the noise. I can't feel any vibration just a wierd sort of humming/vibrating noise.

I while ago in exactly the same sort of situation I got a whining noise, very faint but never went away, just wondering if it's now progressed into this.

Could it be anything to do with the turbo?

problem is if it IS in the gearbox then you'll have to start looking inside it!

you can rule out the UJ though by getting underneath and giving each joint a waggle - hopefully it won't waggle too much... at least that rules out the cheaper option of replacing one of them.

Since I bought the thing, the gearbox isn't the healthiest of things for only 57000 miles. Usual crunch in second, a slight crunch engaging third sometimes. But not too worried
