Hi all,

I've currently got 7.50 x 16's with Deestones on my 1980 S3 SWB, but i'm after some black steel modulars or similar with perhaps Insa Turbos or something on.

What size can i fit on that will bring the wheels out of the arches abit more (in line with the wings maybe?) and not only give me some good off road grip but a meaner look?

Cheers
Ian

235's will line up with the tub at the back and will come slightly out of the wings (would have thought they'd be the same but both me regular series 3's do that!) i've got 235x 70 R16 and 235x80 r16's me thinks and they look nay bad on white 8 spokes :)

Yep 235's...

Spyderman, Yeh they're spot on. What size are they?

I notice Paddocks do 30mm spacers too. Any experience of these?

oh dear ere we go again

Thanks for your input Sean!

I want to go wider. I can therefore put wider tyres on which must improve grip on and off road. Looks are a bonus as i think the landy looks abit odd with the wheels tucked into the arches.

Cheers for the info, I'll look into those sizes. Quite like the idea of black modulars with either BF MT's or Insa Turbos

i was gonna go for 265/75R16 on my 109" but i am also going to be running the wider axles from a discovery but now i have seen a series on 9.00s i am tempted to run them, my cousin runs 35-12.50r15s on his disco but they catch the arches even on a 2" lift with the arches cut right back

They're 9.00x16 Michelin XL on 6.5J Snatch Land Rover Rims, with 1 Ton shackles to give a bit of a lift. They rubbed ever so slightly on the backs, so had to file the inner bodywork slightly. The fronts actually touched the lower part of the bumper and light panel, so they were both trimmed and re-modelled.
Metric equivalent is 255/100R16. They're 36" tall and 9" wide.

I've seen at first hand the Kumho's off road, in my experience they are totally useless, the tread just clogs up and ends up being a sticky doughnut. BFG Muds far better.

Why do you want to go for Modulars? They just end up looking rusty and horrible. Disco I Steels give the extra width and offset being 7.00J or Snatch Land Rover Rims at 6.50J if you want the same Series look. Both are tubeless rims too.
Picture shows my Series with the 9.00's, on Snatch Rims, with 1 Ton Shackles fitted. Bumper is removed to allow for new engine fitting. (still works in progress)
You can hopefully see where I've re-profiled the front wings.

I'm surpriesd I've only heard good thing about em but I'm new to this sport so i appreciate the advice ;)

my lightweight came fitted with a set of 265/75R16 tyres, they are huge, stick out from under the wings by about 1 1/2"! imo they were too big for a sensible looking series landy so i stuck them on a disco and they still look huge!!

I seen the same thing but in my opinion the BFG's were crap and the khumo's were by far the better tyre. and at half the price BFG's are just so over priced they're a joke.

All mud tyres do that. It depends on the type of mud, not the tyres;)
We were all in the same lane. 1 Defender with Kumho's, 1 with BFG MT's. The BFG's performed much better. The Kumho equipped one had trouble moving on the flat.
As I said it's only my personal experience of them. Maybe it was just the wrong type of mud.

I don't use either, I prefer Michelin XCL's

. Maybe it was just the wrong type of mud.

Probably. It's well known that the wrong type of leaves can stop a train so it stands to reason:D
My bfg's clog up like fook in claggy stuff but I reckon they're a good compromise between on/off road and being 265's they're great in sand etc.
